Les Armengauds - self-catering family-friendly holiday in the south of france

Map of wine tasting regions in the Languedoc Roussillon

Towards Carcassonne is a fantastic variety of wine-growing areas - with the main wine regions being Minervois and Corbieres, but with other pockets of notable wines such as Cotes du Cabardes, Cotes de la Malepere, Blanquette de Limoux. On the coast, choose from Fitou, Cotes du Roussillon, Cotes du Roussillon Villages and La Clape.
As far as wine tasting goes, here is a small selection of Chateaux offering that unique and pleasurable experience.
Chateau du Donjon
The owners (Caroline & Jean) speak very little English, however they are extremely helpful and hospitable.
Domaine des Grandes Marquises
4 generations of winemaking. Include Vin de Pays Jeannot, Merlot, Margot and AOC Minervois.
Le Mas de mon Pere
Wines include: Vin Rouge en A.O.C. Malepère (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec); Vin Rouge élevé en Fûts de Chêne en A.O.C. Malepère (Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon).
Terra Vinéa
Quite a treck but highly recommended by some of our previous guests. If you are heading to the coast, worth a look. The establishment is a bit of a wine "theme park" (see website) - but you do get to sample the wine in the wine shop, in apparently generous portions!
