CANAL DU MIDI: The canal stretches 360 kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. The nearest major town on the Canal is Castelnaudary, however you will come across this impressive waterway if you visit Toulouse, Carcassone or any of the smaller towns north of the A61 autoroute. The Canal was classified as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1996, as it considers the Canal to be one of the greatest engineering achievements of the Modern Age.
